I’ve finally got round to upgrading the server this site is hosted on.  The old DEC Alpha was struggling to keep up with everything I was throwing at it.  Once I’d decided that I was going to upgrade my desktop machine, the spare bits would be re-assigned to build a new server…

New desktop spec:

• Intel Core2 Duo E3400
• Asus P5W-DH Deluxe Motherboard
• 2GB Ram
• 250GB SATA2 Harddisk
• ATI X800 PCI-E Graphics Card

New server spec – Original spec in brackets:

• Athlon 2000XP (Dec Alpha Miata 200Mhz)
• 720MB Ram (720MB)
• 120GB SATA1 Harddisk (4GB SCSI)

Needless to say, the desktop is a BEAST of a machine and the “new” server is a huge improvement over the old trusty Alpha.
